Here is a brief list of how I, as
Director of Academic Initiatives, can be of service to
you in your efforts to advance assessment processes within individual
programs:
- Consult
with chair / ABET coordinator about program assessment plan
- Brainstorm
with chair / faculty about possible “low-stress” assessment
methods
- Work
with individual faculty or chairs to develop an assessment project for
funding through Bush or assessment mini-grant monies
- Suggest
how data already produced or assessments already used on campus could
support the assessment of program outcomes (e.g., those difficult a
– k outcomes!)
- Identify
& locate funding for targeted workshop to assist a program
- Run
an SGID-style student focus group for program
- Coordinate
with the institutional research analyst to prepare assessment data for
use and/or distribution
- Help
a program to make use of the Digital Archival Tool for assessment to
organize the collection of student work artifacts
- Assist
in organizing program data for uploading to the program page of the
Virtual Assessment Office
- Locate
funding for “targeted travel” aimed at promoting assessment
processes
- Purchase
books, tapes, videos, and other relatively low-cost materials to
support efforts to learn more about assessment practices and
possibilities
- Invite
key people to participate in assessment events
- Attend
program or departmental meetings to listen, to present information, or
pitch in on assessment planning
- Attend
assessment meetings or retreats held by individual programs
- Raise
concerns or needs with the assessment committees and/or the VPAA
- Identify
functioning models on campus or elsewhere for assessment processes or
tools a program is considering for use
- Help
demystify assessment jargon or translate descriptions of requirements
published by accrediting agencies
