The Financial Aid Office at the School of Mines strives to adhere to and maintain the highest levels of ethical and moral integrity in the administration of the various financial aid programs available to our students. As a result, we subscribe to the principles set forth in the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) Statement of Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct for Institutional Financial Aid Professionals. You can also click here to view the SDSM&T Financial Aid Office Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest statement. We invite you to review this information and feel free to contact our office if you have any questions.

Many college students find it necessary to supplement their personal and family financial resources in order to attend college. Students at the School of Mines consistently benefit from over $13 million in financial assistance from various funding sources from both within and outside the university. The Financial Aid Office Staff will make every effort to develop a financial aid package (some combination of loan, work, grant and scholarship) which will make it possible for capable, qualified, and needy students to finance college and living costs. However, the student should still be prepared to pay for a portion of college costs through savings from employment, and parents of dependent students are expected to assist with the student's cost of education to the extent to which they are able.

The tentative date for informing incoming freshman of their Federal Student Aid award is mid-April (all other students are awarding following the spring semester) and on a rolling basis thereafter. The start date for awarding may be earlier or later depending on when the South Dakota Board of Regents are able to meet following the state legislative session in order to set Tuition, Fee, Room and Board rates for the coming year. The Financial Aid Office has no control over variations in our awarding start date for the new academic year. Awards will be processed when your financial aid file is considered complete and ready for aid packaging.

The following information is intended to help you and your family better understand the Financial Aid process. If at any time you have questions about this process, feel free to contact our office. We are here to serve you and help make your educational experience at the School of Mines as rewarding as possible.
