Campus Emergency Procedures - Bomb/Anthrax Threat Procedures
If you receive a bomb threat:
- If the threat is received on the phone, try to keep the caller on the phone in order to obtain as much information as possible. Use the attached checklist to record in formation.

If there is another person in the office, direct then to call the police department (9-911) and Campus Safety (6100) while you keep the call on the line.

Otherwise, immediately after hanging up, dial *57 to mark the call, and call the Police Department immediately (9-911). Then call Campus Safety at 6100.

If the threat is immediate, evacuate the building immediately. All occupants are required to vacate a building when directed by police, fire, or university officials or when the fire alarm had sounded. If the threat is not immediate, the representative of the President's office will make the decision whether or not to evacuate the building. Use the fire alarm only if immediate evacuation is necessary.

Do not use radio transmitters in or near the building with a reported bomb threat.

Notify immediate supervisor, if available, of the situation.

Give the information about the bomb threat and the response only to the Safety Office, Facilities Service Representatives or the Police.
If you receive an Anthrax threat:
Do not panic: If threat is received on the phone in order to obtain as much information as possible. Use the attached checklist to record information.
Unopened letter:
- Keep others away

Wash hands and exposed skin with soap and water

Notify your supervisor if available

Follow notification procedures outlined in the bomb threat procedure
Envelope with powder spills out onto surface:
- Do not clean up powder
- Keep others away
- Wash hands and exposed skin
- Do not brush off clothes
- Follow notification procedures outlined in the bomb threat procedure
Package marked with threatening message:
Letter threatening “Anthrax” in Heating, Ventilation, or Air Conditioning System:
- Evacuate threatened area
- Keep others from entering
- Follow notification procedures outlined in the bomb threat procedure
