Net Price Calculator
In accordance with the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (HEOA), by October 29, 2011, each postsecondary institution that participates in Title IV Federal Student Aid Programs must post a Net Price Calculator (NPC) on its website that uses institutional data to provide estimated net price information to current and prospective students and their families based on a student’s individual circumstances. The net price calculator is required for all Title IV institutions that enroll full-time, first-time degree- or certificate-seeking undergraduate students.
Based on this requirement, the School of Mines is utilizing the NPC made available by the U.S. Department of Education. Using both information provided previously by the School of Mines and input from the student/family, this NPC will allow you to calculate an "estimated" net price, which is defined as cost (price) of attendance minus Federal Grant and institutional scholarship aid, based on what similar students paid in a previous year. It is important to note that depending on when you access the NPC on our web site, the institutional information used to calculate the net price could be nearly two years old. Depending on updates to the U.S. Department of Education NPC, it is expected that the School of Mines will update our information for the NPC by late January of each year. Items to keep in mind when reviewing the results.
• The results of the Net Price Calculator are only estimates and may not be a true reflection of your net price.
• The NPC calculated estimates for grants and scholarships only reflects your potential federal grants and School of Mines scholarships. This does not take into account scholarships you could be awarded through your state, high school, local or national civic organizations, Tribal Higher Education assistance, Vocational Rehabilitation or military educational benefits, to name just a few.
• The Tuition & Fee estimate is based on 30 credit hours for the academic year. If you are taking more or less than 30 credits, divide the tuition and fees estimated cost figure by 30 and then multiple the result by the total credit hours you expect to take for the academic year. Replace the amount we provide with the NPC with your result to obtain your own revised total estimated cost.
• The room and board estimate is based on the basic campus housing option and standard meal plan. There are other, more expensive campus housing options available that you would have to take into account for your estimated costs.
• The books and supplies estimate is based on $1200 for books and supplies plus $760 estimate for the Tablet PC rental fee that is required of all undergraduate students.
• Even though the majority of our first time, full time freshman live in campus housing, depending on how you answer the question regarding your housing arrangements, the NPC will also calculate a net price for someone living with their parents or someone living on their own.
• If you are most concerned with what the student/family would more closely owe the university, you should subtract out the calculated cost allowance for other expenses (personal, transportation, etc.) to arrive at a closer estimate of direct costs for attendance at the School of Mines.
