STEPS Engineering Camp for Girls
Science Technology Engineering Preview Summer Camp (STEPS) for girls, grades 9-12, is a one-week introduction to the world of technology and engineering. Students will focus on one main engineering project during the week - robotics. Students will work to program their robot to perform tasks. They will learn about hardware and software. This fun, hands-on activity will teach them what an engineering project is like. In addition, campers will explore the world of engineering through various workshops and hands-on activities that expose students to Metallurgical Engineering (through blacksmithing), Chemical Engineering (through a chocolate lab!), and all other engineering disciplines on campus. Evenings are filled with additional opportunities to explore engineering and science principles in fun ways. Of course there is time for fun! The camp also includes a number of activities that may include swimming, pizza parties, a field trip, etc. Participants will experience dorm life, cafeteria food and learn what it is like to be on a college campus. This is an overnight residential camp. A room will be provided in a residence hall on the School of Mines campus for the entire week. There will be 2-4 campers per room. Counselors are assigned to the campers in a ratio of one for every 15 girls. The camp will provide all meals.
July 27 - August 1, 2008 Grades 9-12 Registration fee: $400 (includes camp, activities, room and board) Attendance is limited to 28 girls.
