Reading for Week Five

Week Five Creative Writing Reading Assignment

This week we continue to work with poetry and move into a most exciting area of this class, two weeks and more of Creative Non-Fiction, a genre with which you experimented the first week.

You will find many web locations devoted to Creative Non-Fiction, including Creative Non-Fiction, a journal devoted to the genre; you need not join to read the information. Others, such as the late Bruce Dobler's, offer you links and definitions.

You will find others to share with you fellow writers.

Continue to revise your work as you get it back; you will get back a lot over the next few days, and I apologize for the delays.

Remember, too, to publish on the Third Discussion Thread for each week--again, place material here not only from the week in question, but from other weeks as well, especially as you revise.

And discuss your work.

Helpful discussions take place on the Third Discussion Thread for those who make the effort; please get to the threads before late Saturday and Sunday.

For this week, read the following materials:

The Creative Writing Guide:

"Writing Literary Non-Fiction," 162-187.

From "Stop-Time" by Frank Conroy, 240-246.

Road Trip:

"Ron Bloch," 151-163. Note, too, that for your enjoyment and for discussion, I posted a PDF document, Ron Bloch's "The Gothenburg Marching Band."
