Week Four Creative Writing Reading Assignment
This week concludes our formal work with poetry, and we will move on to Creative Non-Fiction, which you actually worked with the first week; however, you should continue to revise your work, which I will continue to get back to you over the coming days.
And we never really will leave the dynamics of poetry, for you will continue to make considerable use of the tools introduced these past swiftly passing weeks.
Continue to post and to discuss your work on Discussion Thread Three. Many of you have done an fine job in this regard, so do keep up the effort.
For this week, read the following materials:
The Creative Writing Guide:Chapter Seven: "The Form of Poetry," 88- 104Road Trip: The campus bookstore has ten copies of Road Trip.
"Charles Fort," 120- 130."Ted Kooser," 222-237
Remember, too, to look at this week's poem at American Life in Poetry.
This week's reading concerns, as the class notes indicate, specific poetic forms, from Sestina to a Sonnet. Metered poetry, as a matter of fact, with specific rhyme patterns makes a strong comeback.
And your poetry project will give you an opportunity to experiment with these exciting and exacting forms.
Read carefully and experiment.
