Week One Reading

Week One Creative Writing Reading Assignment

Bear in mind that each week you will have a good deal of reading to master, especially as the class is compressed from Sixteen Weeks to an intense Eight.

As noted elsewhere, this compression does not mean less work but more work in a shorter period of time.

In other words, please work to keep up.

And begin reading at the beginning of each week and maintain a steady pace.

For this first week, please read the following materials:

The Creative Writing Guide:

Chapter One: "Writing as a Journey," 2-17

Chapter Two: "Writing Habits," 18-39.

Road Trip:

Road Trip, 2-15

William Kloefkorn, 18-35

You will find plenty of exciting places on the internet that feature creative writing, some better than others. If you discover interesting sites, share them on the appropriate discussion threads with your fellow writers.

In addition, become familiar with Ted Kooser's site, American Life in Poetry. You can become a member and receive an excellent poem each week.

We will talk about these weekly poems on the Discussion Threads, for Ted chooses a wonderful poem each week.

Take the time necessary to do all the reading, for you will put the material to use on the Discussion Threads and in your written assignments.

Each week, I will try to post at least one video message for you on Creative Writing Fever; you can also download this video as a podcast--just download iTunes (free) and then click on Advanced in the upper menu bar; there, click the link for Subscribe to Podcast and paste in this address:

You will find there podcasts for other classes, so just choose the ones for Creative Writing. Now you can watch the video on your own computer or on your IPod or MP3 player.

You will have an opportunity to share and discuss your work each week on Discussion Thread Three.

Remember to stay up with the assignments.
