Welcome to the Class

Untitled Document
Welcome to NonWestern Literature

NonWestern Literature class appears at a different time: the second half of the term instead of the first--so watch dates and ask for clarification, for I will correct all the errors encountered. I also changed two of the novels from last year.

Information for the class also appears on my web page and on Blackboard for the on-line version of this class.

For your convenience, the class web page includes pretty much all the information found on Blackboard, including a link to the Class Blog, the Nonwestern Literature Exchange, on which I will post weekly messages and quiz reviews.

Again, I might ask you to review for a quiz that comes from last year, which means, of course, that the dates will be incorrect--but I will also change most of the videos this semester, so you should not have problems.

As soon as possible, read carefully the Introduction to the Class, which contains important material about the ins and outs of this course.

In addition, make the class web page an internet favorite: Here, you will discover links to class material and pretty much everything you will find on Blackboard--this backup helps throughout the term.

On the web page, for example, you will also find a Class Syllabus, Schedule, extensive notes and links for the reading assignments, weekly reading and writing assignments, and various other class-related documents.

Go to the Class Blog on Monday and Thursday (in general) each week to watch video messages (usually less than thirty minutes) from me regarding the week's work and preparation for the quizzes.

At the beginning of each week, moreover, read the weekly announcement, for you will find important information and links.

As the notes for the first week indicate, you must respond to the Discussion Threads in paragraph form at least two times to receive minimum credit; in addition to your comments, find interesting links connected with class material while surfing the web and share this material with your fellow readers.

I will pay close attention to both these areas of exchange.

Waiting until Saturday and Sunday to work on your discussion threads results in posting and not in discussion; weak efforts will receive minimum credit.

As a general rule, from Thursday morning until Sunday night, the quizzes will be available to you--you will find a link to take the quizzes in the Assignment Section for each week. And, again, I will post a discussion that covers quiz questions on a video you will find on the Class Blog, the Nonwestern Literature Exchange.

Unless indicated otherwise, you must complete the quiz and the discussion threads by Midnight Sunday of the week assigned.

If you have questions, just e-mail or telephone. And of course, you can either yell to me on campus or visit my office.

In other words, you have many ways to get in touch with me.

I look forward to talking with all of you and to working with you this term.
