Week Eight Announcements
CONGRATULATIONS!
This week brings our class to an abrupt conclusion.
I offer a lot of information here, so read carefully
As usual, give the Video Greeting your attention, for I relate information about the conclusion of the eight weeks. In addition, you will find another video over American Born Chinese and two videos about Children's Poetry; you will also find a link to a discussion about the Final Examination.
As far as the class is concerned, the course officially concludes on Friday 29 July; by midnight on this date, your final examination must be completed.
I will accept revisions, however, until midnight Sunday, July 31, two days after the formal conclusion of the class. And the discussion threads will also remain open until that time.
Class officially concludes on Friday, 29 July. And you should have all work other than revisions and discussion threads to me by that date.
Take the revision process seriously. Up to now, I have given each essay a good deal of attention with respect to content, grammar, and style. Read the comments and suggestions carefully and work hard to improve the essay; a strong revision often requires a reorganization, a re-vision of your previous efforts, so take the time necessary to improve the work.
Read the FINAL EXAM FORMAT AND STUDY GUIDE CAREFULLY
Again, you must complete Parts One and Two of the examination between the morning of July 27, this Wednesday, and midnight Friday, July 29.
The final examination will follow the identical format of the midterm. Part One is located in a folder beneath the Week Eight Assignment Folder.
You will find the link to take PART TWO of the examination in the Assignment Folder for Week Eight.
You must complete Part One at one sitting; you can return to work on Part Two multiple times.
This week, you will read Poetry and complete American Born Chinese. No notes will be posted this time around; however, you will find two on the blog page for this week two videos about poetry that will help you study for the final examination.
You will also find in addition to a second video about American Born Chinese, a video to help you prepare for the final examination.
You do not have to study to take this week's quiz; the answer to the one-question quiz is "true." The quiz is open now.
You will have two Discussion Threads to which to contribute from Monday-Sunday, one on Poetry and another on American Born Chinese.
And get your writing to me as soon as you can, for the links get crowded with essays at this juncture in the term.
A quick word about grades, which you can see posted, of course. Remember, however, that total points do not mean much at all, so do not go by that percentage.
See the Syllabus for the weighted percentages, for weight counts:
Discussion Threads: 16
Quizzes: 16
Book Analysis Reports: 24 (8% Each)
Alphabet Book Essay: 12
Midterm Examination: 18 (9% Each Part)
Final Examination: 14 (7% Each Part)
(Note that all grades are weighted according to the preceding scale.)
Thank you all very much for a very engaging experience in Children's Literature. I hope that you will continue to read your text and many of the authors mentioned in the book, class notes, and these past weeks on the Discussion Threads.
Go well and enjoy the remainder of your summer.
I hope to see you all in other classes, Bill
