Week Four Reading

Untitled Document

Children's Literature Reading for WEEK FOUR

This week, our reading takes us from Fairy Tales to the related area of Animal Fables and then on to the world of Mythology; and we will continue the discussion that has developed over the past three weeks.

This week, read the following material:

Animal Fables, Introduction--387- 393. Pay close attention to this information for the quiz and for your own book analysis report should you decide to write on a modern version of a traditional Fable.

In addition, read all the remaining material in the section--394-417.

Classical Myths, Introduction-- 419-422. This material will come in very handy for the quiz and for your own book analysis report should you decide to write on a Myth of a Legend.

In addition, read all the remaining material in the section--423-443.

The readings for Fables and Myths will interest you, especially in terms of how the writing and the material has altered over the past couple hundred years--again pay close attention to these valuable introductions.

In addition to Fables and Myths, you will also start The Giver. Read Chapters 1-6 of this compelling novel. As you read this dystopian narrative, consider ways in which this the novel of the possible future deals with important issues in the present.

You will also take a midterm examination between July 5-6., so refer to the appropriate link in this folder for further information.
