Administrative Organization
POLICY
The
administration of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology provides
support for the implementation of the policies and directions established by the
institution through deliberations of faculty, staff, and students. Further, the
administration, in concert with the Board of Regents and the government of South
Dakota, strives to provide a scholarly environment that encourages the growth of
the intellect, character, and spirit of each member of the university community.
PROCEDURES
The South
Dakota School of Mines and Technology is administrated through an organization
consisting of two major emphasis areas: academic programs and administrative
support. Responsibility for each of these areas will be assigned to a vice
president with titles of:
Vice President for Academic
Affairs and Provost: The chief academic officer of the institution
responsible for providing direction for academic departments and related
academic entities and functions.
Vice President
for Business and Administration: The
chief administrative support officer of the institution responsible for
providing direction for the business and support entities and functions.
Vice President for Student
Affairs and Dean of Students: The chief administrative support officer of
the institution responsible for providing direction for student affairs and
related support entities.
Vice President for Research:
The chief administrative support officer of the institution responsible for
providing direction for sponsored programs, economic development, intellectual
property, patents and licensing, federal relations, and research centers.
Vice President for University and
Public Relations: The chief administrative support officer of the
institution responsible for providing activities to communicate information
about the university and develop partnership programs with the community.
The University Cabinet consisting of the President, the Vice
President for Academic Affairs and Provost, the Vice President for Business and
Administration, the Vice President for Research, the Vice President for Student
Affairs and Dean of Students, the Vice President for University and Public
Relations, the President of the SDSM&T Foundation, the Director of the Alumni
Association, the Deans of the two Colleges, the Dean of Graduate Education, the
Chair of the Faculty Senate, the Assistant to the President, the Chairs of the
Career Service Council and Exempt Employees Council, the President of the
Student Association, and the Director of Facilities shall meet at the call of
the President and advise the President concerning the development of policy, the
governance of the university, strategic planning and the fiscal operation of the
university.
