Mechanical Engineering Department

The curriculum in Mechanical Engineering is designed to give the student a thorough knowledge of the basic principles involved in the major stems of mechanical Engineering-Thermoscience, Mechanical Systems, and Manufacturing. Beyond this basic foundation the curriculum also develops:

The various aspects of problem solving skills including defining the problem, working toward a solution and arriving at an adequate answer. A key element of this is the effective integration of the computer into problem solving.

Communication skills and the effective presentation of information. An appreciation of the constraints which exist in industry with emphasis on the time and cost factors of engineering.

Improved understanding of engineering theory by hands-on laboratory experience.

In the senior year, the students select a sequence that best suits their interests and career objectives. Three sequences are offered. The Energy sequence leads into the heating and air conditioning field and the power systems design field. The Mechanical Systems sequence leads into the machine design field. The Manufacturing sequence leads into the design, use, and supervision of computer controlled manufacturing.
