Sustainable Activities Occuring on the SDSM&T Campus

"In the CSC 150, Computer Science I course, I've eliminated a large amount of paper use.  Previously, per semester, an average of 100 students would generate almost 19 reams of printed material (homework, programming labs, major program assignments, etc.)  Beginning this term, only the exams and a printed progress check on program assignments are on paper, all other work is submitted electronically. Grading is done on the computer files, and the files returned to students, reducing average per student paper usage from 93 sheets each to 24.  That works out to a reduction from 18.6 reams to 4.8 reams, 26% of previous usage."  - Val Manes 04/10/08

"In 2004, we enabled the "Free" cooling on the Computer room AC. What this does is when the outdoor air is cold enough, the system just circulates the water from the roof to the computer room and uses the water directly to cool the room. So far we have been getting about 4000hrs a year worth of free cooling."  Steve Bauer 04/10/08
